Meanwhile… we’ve actually been playing games. Each week we recap our recent gaming experiences and tell you what we’re looking forward to, so you can use your time more wisely than we have. The summer gaming drought is in full effect. Time to finish what you’ve started and look around for those games you didn’t get to last year before the fall rush hits us all.
Things are definitely calming down on the new game purchases, so I find myself settling into a bit of a routine. Leisurely working through a few missions a week in Red Dead Redemption, but I never stay focused and end up gambling in remote locations in Mexico. Methodically parrying my way through Demon’s Souls, not the enemies mind you, but the auto-save feature every time I mess up. That game is going to kill me. Luckily, when I need to lighten up, Split/Second is growing on me, but between that and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, I’m getting a bit sick of helicopters. I’m on the lookout for a new co-op game, and leaning towards finally diving into the Left 4 Dead series. Any zombie killers out there want to join up?
Once I received the new slimmer 360 I’ve been trying to catch up on all the games I’ve missed at once. The games I’ve been playing in the last week includes: Shadow Complex, Peggle, and Trials HD. But the one game that I have absolutely fallen in love with is Mass Effect. I haven’t noticed any unbearable load times often associated with that game but maybe it’s because I downloaded it from the games marketplace. There are a few games on there that I will be playing in the future and any time I don’t have to go to the store for a game the better.
I am still playing Modern Warfare 2 on XBL (and off). I went back this weekend and played the campaign on Veteran Difficulty hoping that I’d finally get that 100% mark on my start screen. Once I beat it, I realized that in order to get 100%, I needed to collect all of the “Enemy Intel”. Fortunately there are plenty of guides out there. I also found out that I was pretty close to collecting all of the Achievements. Since I’ve never actually completed every achievement on any game before, I thought I’d give this one a shot and go for 100%. This coming week will be my attempt at getting all of the achievements and collecting all 45 enemy intel to get 100% completion in the campaign. I am also still playing the multiplayer – primarily the new map pack on Hardcore. I just recently discovered the beauty of the FAL on Hardcore, so I’m playing that up as much as I can.
Right now, I’m still pushing forward with Red Dead Redemption. I just offed one of my mentors, and successfully completed the “Legend of the West” Outfit challenge. I went a bit “unorthodox” in obtaining this garb by disarming an army of lawmen while seeking cover behind Blackwater tavern’s bar….not an easy task. This week, I’m planning on beating all of the story missions in my attempt for 100% completion. Next up, gotta finish up all of the subquests in Fallout 3‘s main mission and start on the DLCs. You know you’ve got a killer game when you put it down for 2 months and still want to keep playing (besides this being my 3rd character). I’m in a time cruch for both of these tasks….the responsiblities of fatherhood will soon outweigh needs for gaming enlightenment.
Finished up Red Dead Redemption last week. Couldn’t for the life of me figure out what I was missing for the 100% completion achievement and then of course, as soon as I sell it on Amazon and ship it, Xbox Live comes out with a walkthrough on how to do it. Doh. Anywho, I just received Uncharted 2 via gamefly tonight so I’ll finally get to play that. So far I like it; funny, nice cinematic feel. Had a few OMG and WTF moments on Red Dead which I’ll get into on the podcast. Stay tuned.
I’m in the market for a new game this week. I’m almost finished with Alan Wake and I played through the Mass Effect 2: Overlord DLC so I need a new focus. I’m feeling like playing through one of the many, many games on my backlog of things I missed. Maybe BioShock or Fallout 3. Also, I have a confession: for all the time I’ve had to play games in the last week, I’ve spent a lot of time playing Doodle Jump on my phone haha.
