The Doom mod community is ridiculous. Best encapsulated by the fact that there are now 20 versions of Brutal Doom which is the only recent mod I’ve played and therefore my favorite. The addition of death throes, dismemberments, modern weapons, and modern FPS controls make Doom feel like new again. So much fun my face… Continue reading

Just Playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Jenny O’ the Woods
Monster contracts have been my favorite quests so far in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Mainly because I just want an excuse to explore the world and discover something new. Preferably that something new is a hideous new creature or foe that I’ve never had the pleasure of fighting before. It’s time to get to… Continue reading
Game Curious Splatoon – You’ve Got Ink On You
It’s been a while since I was actually interested in a multiplayer game with random strangers from the start. Usually I’ll warm up with some friends and if I like it enough, I’ll go public. Nintendo had my best interests in mind with Splatoon because it turns out that playing a fun game with other… Continue reading
Played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Wild What?
Initially, I was intimidated by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Aside from just being behind by never finishing the other games, the controls were daunting. I never felt comfortable in The Witcher 2. It seemed like other players adapted in previous games and I wasn’t going to be left behind on Round 3. This time… Continue reading
Game Curious Invisible, Inc – Not Impossible
Someone needs to spy on Klei Entertainment because I think they may have conquered another genre. Invisible, Inc. is intuitive, sneaky, and stylish. I got so caught up in the missions unfolding before me that I forgot I had time to think through my moves. The last thing I expect from a strategy title is for… Continue reading
Hey! Buy! Two Visual Commpendiums of Commodore Art
I can’t say I have the experience to fully participate in a Commodore nostalgia fest, but I can appreciate a collection of art from classic games. Thanks to Kickstarter, Sam Dyer has released two great looking books celebrating the artistry of the Commodore 64 and Amiga. Commodore 64: a visual Commpendium – “A book that celebrates… Continue reading
Arcade Challenge Report – Shadow Dancer
A ninja and a dog go walking through the airport, but thugs won’t leave them alone. Is the dog a ninja, too? Can I control just the dog? I really like the dog. There’s a dog in this game. Shadow Dancer was released by Sega in 1989. “While there were many follow-ups that came out… Continue reading
Reason to Upgrade – PC with MS-DOS and CGA Graphics: So Many Keys, So Few Colors
I’m not sure I knew what a computer was when I saw one awkwardly sitting on a card table in our family room. My dad was tinkering with it. Turning it on, turning it off, turning it back on. I saw him clicking on a lot of buttons as letters showed up on the screen. I… Continue reading
Game Curious Wolfenstein: The Old Blood – All I Need is Pipe
What a difference a year makes. I wasn’t sure I wanted more Wolfenstein last year, but now I can’t get enough. The Old Blood takes ol’ Willy Blazko back to his roots, er, cell in Castle Wolfenstein. There’s only one thing to do and we’re gonna take as many Nazi corpses with us as we… Continue reading
Hey! Remember! Jack In with Limp Bizkit on SegaNet
We came across this pretty amazing SegaNet ad the other day. If you’ll remember in 2000 one of the more progressive features of Sega’s Dreamcast was that it supported online gaming. When you are done beating up on your friends locally and online, who else would you want to play against? Celebrities? Ok, I guess…. Continue reading
Arcade Challenge Report – Jungler
A bunch of snakes got stuck in a Pac-Man maze and started shooting at each other’s butts. Jungler was released by Konami in 1981. “The player controls a snake-like ship moving around a number of mazes chasing three similar computer controlled ships. Being hit by bullets reduces the length of the ships. Ships are destroyed either when… Continue reading
Reason to Upgrade – SNES: Singular Nintendo Entertainment System
For most of my formative years, video game consoles just magically showed up at my house. I didn’t know where they came from. I just assumed my dad’s friends got bored or had extras. Every 2 years or so I’d come home and a new one would be hooked up somewhere in my house and it… Continue reading
