During our August 4th podcast, we spoke about a story that concerned the fate of Clayton Carmine, the brother of deceased Gears of War veterans Anthony and Ben. By purchasing t-shirts for their avatars that read “Save Carmine” or “Carmine must die”, gamers would be voting on whether the remaining Carmine brother would make it through Gears of War 3 intact while at the same time contributing money to the Child’s Play Charity .
While we aren’t able to reveal what will become of young Clayton, we can report that $150,000 was raised for Child’s Play, which will help the charity continue to bring games and other toys to children in hospitals.
This is the type of story we like to see about the industry as most video game related articles concerning children explore the negative aspects of gaming such as addiction, obesity and school shootings. As the market and popularity of gaming grows, it seems the industry’s ability to do some good will grow as well.
