The 2012 Grimmys: BFG Award

BFG Award

Overachievers are fine by us when they blow our minds and exceed our wildest expectations. This game in particular didn’t have to try so hard, but we’re happy it did.

Grimmy WinnerSleeping Dogs
Many of us wrote off open-world crime games years ago. Saints Row may have carved out its own niche, but an also-ran title like True Crime stood next to zero chance of breaking through in the genre. So much so that Activision canceled True Crime: Hong Kong even though it was mostly complete. However, I highly doubt that when Square Enix resurrected it as Sleeping Dogs that anyone expected it to be one of the best games of the year.
