To be blunt, Disney Epic Mickey failed to match its hype, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the gusto shown in the recent announcement of its sequel. The Epic Mickey franchise will not go quietly, and its team seems bound and determined to fulfill on the promises set forth by the original game.
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two will attempt to capture the magic of the original pitch of revolutionizing Mickey video games with three key features. First, the game will be multiplatform and appear on the Xbox 360 in addition to its primary platform, the Wii, so that a wider audience can enjoy the adventure. Also added is a focus on co-op gameplay with Oswald helping out with his electric powers and helicopter ears. Finally, Disney Interactive has stated that the music of Epic Mickey 2 will be an major part of the gameplay.
All of this of course builds on top of the imaginative paintbrush puzzle solving mechanic that is the trademark of the series. If Disney Interactive and Blitz Games can correct the error-prone camera and freshen up some of the dated gameplay sequences, the Epic Mickey series still stands a chance of earning its title.
