PlanetSide 2, like its predecessor, is a genuine MMOFPS. It’s going to be free-to-play, which is a welcome change, and seeing the game in action definitely made my pants tight. The game looks downright gorgeous at times. The new bases, which are always home to some huge infantry engagements, got a beautiful overhaul. Also, I never liked flying much in PS, but the new physics and handling model made that Reaver look pretty fun. I hope it has joystick support!
The original PlanetSide is a game I hold on a nostalgic pedestal. I had so many memorable late night battles with my Vanu brethren. The giant 200-man melees on Searhus were exhilarating, as was the two hour hovertank survival run with my copilot and PlanetSide bro, Travis. Seriously, by the end of that session, literally every square inch of our tank was covered with a bullethole decal.
I recently fired the game back up in the hopes of reliving the glory days, only to find out that after almost 9 years, time has not been kind. The population was too small to inspire the epic battles of yore and the physics, shooting mechanics and graphics were all terribly dated. So, back on the pedestal it goes. In the mean time, you can find me waiting in line for the PlanetSide 2 Beta to get my next fix.
