If I’ve learned anything from the Red Faction series it is that Mars is the universe’s greatest sandbox. The series made its mark in the PS2 era with allowing the player to deform the game world around them. Red Faction: Armageddon is the 4th game in the franchise and continues to build/destroy off of the chaos that Red Faction: Guerrilla brought back to gamers in 2009. As you can see from the preview above, the tools and weapons at your disposal laugh at your previous capabilities of altering the environment. Not only can you destroy the world with powerful magnets, but you can instantly rebuild structures to do it all over again. If I get my hands on this, I may never actually get to the core game hidden within this playground.
If Volition has anything to say about it though, there will be plenty to push the player to progress through the game. A more structure story with underground environments and alien enemies to mix up the action. If the variety holds up to support the fun factor of their GeoMod 2.0 technology this time around, THQ may have plenty of tourists for Armageddon and their other Red Faction projects.
Red Faction: Armageddon will be available on May 31, 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
